Since 1997, Malia Everette has been the Director of Global Exchange’s popular “Reality Tours” program. These tours focus on international relations, human rights, women’s issues, political economy, sustainable development, and the resilience of indigenous cultures. During her tenure she has overseen the growth of alternative travel programs to 40 countries. Malia believes that this experiential, socially responsible travel is an important alternative to conventional “sun and fun” tourism, which often leads to cultural homogenization. Malia has an MA in International Relations, and serves on the boards of the Institute of Agriculture and Food Policy (Food First) and the Women’s Earth Alliance. She is a contributing travel writer to MOMBOtv, and the proud mother of two well-traveled sons.
