Ethical Traveler and AltruVistas present World Heritage and Sustainable Tourism in Cuba, an 11-day tour combining visits to the country’s iconic cultural and natural sites and formal and informal meetings with locals, NGOs and government organizations to gain a broad understanding of contemporary Cuba and one of its most important economic sectors – tourism.

Commencing in vibrant Havana, we explore the history of the capital and speak with conservation groups spearheading sustainable tourism and development policies for the city. Following Havana, we travel to Pinar del Rio province for the spectacular scenery in Las Terrazas and Vinales Valley. Nestled in the Sierra del Rosario Mountains, Las Terrazas is a small community situated within the UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve practicing sustainable tourism methods. Our travels continue to Vinales Valley, a tranquil countryside in the Sierra de los Organos Mountain where farmers continue to practice centuries-old traditional agricultural methods. The last leg of our tour includes a visit to Matanzas, Peni?nsula de Zapata, one of the most important ecosystems in Cuba with an abundant of endemic flora and fauna. As we travel around the country, we’ll meet and speak with locals including farmers, professors, government officials, and grassroots organizers leading conservation efforts in contemporary Cuba. In addition to our arranged day activities, our time in Cuba includes a myriad of optional evening opportunities to enjoy Cuban live music and nightlife.
