Independence Day Protest in front of Chinese Consulate (11:30 am - 1 pm)
January 4th, 2008 is the
60th anniversary of Burma’s Independence Day, and we will mark it with a
protest in front of Chinese consulate. India has recently frozen its arms
sales to Burma
for six months. We need China to do more, and a lot more. The time is from
11:30 am to
1:30 pm. The consulate
office (where many visa applicants usually are) is closed between
12 pm to
1 pm; but it opens some days when there are many applicants. Beginning at
11:30 and ending at 1:00 will cover it in either case. And many who work in
the City will be able to join us at lunch time.
When: Friday January 11, 2008; 11:30 am to 1:30 pm (Stand up protests and meditation protests) Where: Consulate General-China; 1450 Laguna St; San Francisco, CA 94115; (415) 674-2900; Get directions How: Activists to protest with song and visuals while Buddhist monks and lay persons do a sitting Vipassana meditation. There could be rain, so bring your umbrella and rain coat. Please wear red and bring signs and banners. Why: China is the primary and biggest enabler of Burma's regime. We demand China reverse its irresponsible policies towards Burma. China must stop its military, diplomatic and economic support of the junta which is bringing ruin and death to Burma. We demand that China NOT veto UN measures designed to pressure the regime. Until China takes such strong and effective measures, we call upon the international community to highlight bringing shame and humiliation upon the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Recently, led by Buddhist monks, hundreds of thousands of peaceful people are taking to the streets to cry out for an end to the long-standing military dictatorship in Burma yet again. However, holding Buddhist Sassana flags and reciting prayers of love on the street is now a crime punishable by beating and death. Many monks have been disrobed, beaten, humiliated, tortured, and killed, and there are reports of a massacre in the jungle. The military junta is raiding monasteries and private homes in the middle of the night and dragging away those they suspect of involvement. Protest against Chevron was a
success The plain old lies from Myanmar SPDC: The Statement, which is found to be very negative, deliberately ignores the successful conclusion of the National Convention which as adopted basic principles for a new constitution as well as the economic development and the gains made in various sectors, such as education, health, transportation, etc. The Country Team should realize that there could be much better gains without the sanctions imposed upon Myanmar by some countries. Invitation 19TH Anniversary of Dictator's power siege in Burma Join San Francisco Burma Freedom Protests on Monday Sept. 17 Against CHINA, RUSSIA AND INDIA GOVERNMENTS Marking the 19th anniversary of brutal crackdowns and power seize by Burma's dictators on Sept. 18 1988 against the people's pro-democracy uprising, you are invited to join the protests against the China, India and Russia Governments and demand "STOP SUPPORTING BURMA'S DICTATORS" on Monday September 17, 2007 (Sept. 18 in Burma) in San Francisco. Since the Junta's power siege 19 years ago, the Military dictators have been imposing brutal rule on the 50 millions people of Burma and trying to erase the people's will registered in the historic 1990 election overwhelmingly choosing National League for Democracy led By Aung San Suu Kyi to rule the country. Unfortunately, economic and military super powers: China, Russia and India have greatly assisted the thuggish regime of Burma economically, militarily and politically including China and Russia vetoing a resolution in the UN Security Council on Burma. Their reckless and irresponsible policies have enabled the world's most brutal dictators terrorize the entire population of Burma. Unavoidably, people of Burma are taking to the streets yet again due to unbearably conditions caused by prolong dictatorship, lack of livelihood, economic hardship and brutal repression, but only to be met with violent and brutal crackdowns --- as usual. Urgent Action Call:
Burma Freedom Protest was a success BADA Condemns SPDC for crackdown and arrests over peaceful demonstrations On August 21, 2007, putting their lives on the line, 88 generation student leaders and concerned residents held peaceful marches in Rangoon. More marches were followed in next few days. Their goal was to symbolize the current dreadful situation of ordinary people in Burma because whole majority people have to take “walk” as their best affordable means of transportation for daily survival at this hike of fuel prices while the military elites and their acquaintances possess automobiles which prices range between 75,000 – 250,000 US Dollar. These prices are quick shocking while we all are well aware of the dire situation of the people of Burma as refugees, IDPs, migrant laborers, etc. Students leaders and protesters were arrested. Names of these eleven student leaders are revealed in the newspapers. They are: Min Ko Naing, Min Zeya, Ko Ko Gyi, Kyaw Min Yu (a) Jimmy, Mya Aye, Htay Win Aung (a) Pyone Cho, Ant Bwe Kyaw,. Zeya, Kyaw Kyaw Htwe (a) Markee, Pandate Tun, Thet Zaw, Zaw Zaw Min, and Nyan Lin Tun. Many demonstrations follows and were met with violent crackdowns (Please see daily updates and news at the top). Here are a few photos from Asian Heritage... 2007 Burma Freedom Rally in San Francisco was a success Annual Burma Freedom Rally was held on Friday, May 25, 2007, 11:30 am - 1:30 pm in front of Federal Building/Nancy Pelosi office (450 Golden Gate Avenue) in San Francisco. More than 40 activists join the rally that was was to celebrate the 17th anniversary of NLD's victory in the Burma's historic 1990 election and also to urge the U.S. Congress and the Administration to seek an effective and immediate actions by the U.N. Security Council on Burma due to ongoing ethnic cleansing, arbitrary arrest, torture, mob attacks, killings and crackdowns in the country. We call upon the United Nations and the international community to do their utmost to take swift and effective measures to secure the safety and release of all political prisoners in Burma immediately. Chevron Headquarters' Annual Shareholder's Meeting Protest Held (Photo Gallery) The Chevron Out of Burma Protest was held that was joined in by about 30 activists (miti-ethnics and groups such as BADA, BAWA, students, American supporters and others) in front of Chevron Headquarter in San Ramon at their Annual Shareholder's meeting on Wednesday, Apr 25. With all groups joining together all together there were about 80 people. We have transformed the large Unocal Protest Banners (Thanks to Heidi) into Chevron Banners. And the Burmese drums (Thanks to Dr. Kyaw Tint and Daw Htay Htay Kyi) make our protest more lively and outstanding. The road was full with cars all morning and it was effective to be shouting slogans. Thank you all for participating; and many others who could not be there with us personally due to busy schedule. A photo of our protest and brief description was published in West County Times, a local paper. Moreover, BBC and VOA (Burmese news) interviewed us about the protest (Dr. Salai Tun Than, Daw Khin Tint Tint, U Maung Maung Latt and myself). Along with Amazon Watch Executive Director and other speakers, Dr. Salai Tun Than and BADA President spoke at the protest. Thanks you all again for participation and support. Again, corporate greed and irresponsibility should not go unnoticed especially when it supports prolong the brutal dictatorship in Burma. View Invitation PHOTO GALLERY
